Churchyard

Holy Cross Churchyard and Memorial Garden have for centuries been part of local history and interest.  The Churchyard is closed for new burial plots but ashes are from time-to time interred in our Memorial Garden.  The whole area is a haven for wildlife and is a quiet tranquil place.

Many also find it a comfort to be able to remember a loved one with a simple plaque on the remembrance wall. The cost of a plaque including fitting and the fee payable to the diocese is currently £200. Please contact the parish office by phone or email (details below).

Once a year we hold a memorial service in Holy Cross for those who have been recently bereaved, this usually takes place in November, to which everyone in the community is welcome to attend.

Any enquiries regarding the Churchyard or Memorial Service can be directed to:

The Parish Office on 01268 289771  or by e-mail here.

Please note that as the Churchyard is now closed to new burials, the responsibility of maintenance lies with the Local Authority. Basildon Council contractors cut the grass a few times a year, but in between times the grass can grow quite long. This is good for wildlife, but we understand that sometimes this may make accessing some graves difficult. Please do let us know if you have particular concerns but we would also encourage you to contact Basildon Council or by phone at 01268 533 333
