Daily Reflection – Wednesday 1st April

‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit’ Romans 15:13

Joy and peace are not prevailing feelings right now, and overflowing with hope does not appear reasonable. As usual, many of the headlines are negative and we can easily be overwhelmed by a sense that this crisis not being dealt with correctly, that things are spiralling out of control.

Look again at the reading. You will see that being filled with hope happens by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we latch onto the words that first leap at us, and pay less attention to those that follow. That’s a mistake, as they are often the ‘how’ of doing what God wants of us. Look at Proverbs 3:5 ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight’. This verse was given to me yesterday, and is really relevant at this time. As we are in uncharted waters right now, how good it is to know we do not need to rely on our own insight. May trust, hope, joy and peace be yours, now and always. God bless you.
