Intercessions for Sunday 1st October from Cathy Crook

Let us come before our God of compassion and grace. We approach Him with humility as we openly express our concerns for the Church and for the world.

Father God, we pray for all those engaged in the work of mission, seeking to spread the Good News of Your love. We remember those who witness their faith in societies where it is dangerous to openly declare being a Christian. We are humbled by the sacrifice and commitment of those prepared to suffer and even die for their faith, as we consider our own weak efforts and the freedom we have. Keep them safe and give encouragement to all agencies which seek to support them. May we strive to live attractive lives which draw people to know of Your goodness, in a world where there is so often fear and despair.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Merciful God, we see so much pain and suffering in the world, so much anger, frustration and despair. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the needs of those around us. But we know nothing is impossible for You. We pray for those who seek to make peace in this divided world; for all national leaders that they may have wisdom to know, and courage to do what is right, that their hearts may be turned to You in the search for righteousness and truth. For all those working to improve international relationships, may they find a way of true reconciliation. We continue to pray for all those suffering around the world who are affected by natural and man made disasters. May all efforts to reconcile the lost and displaced, the refugees and the injured be met with the help needed. Please take a moment to pray for any country which is on your mind at this time……….

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

God of Power, we pray for those both here and abroad, affected by financial uncertainty and are concerned about job security, fearing the loss of homes and savings. Forgive us our greed which causes so many of this world’s problems. May we learn to live simply with fewer possessions, content with what we have and to place value not on material wealth but upon the really important things such as the love of friends and family. Give wisdom and integrity to all who make decisions and develop policies which affect the economies worldwide.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Gracious Father, You sent your Son, Jesus Christ to show us a different way to live; that of humility and obedience. Strengthen and encourage all those who lead and teach us in the churches of St Andrew and Holy Cross. You’ve called us to love one another and to work together with one heart and mind. May our churches be places of welcome, love and inclusion. Bless our outreach into the local community as we seek to meet the needs of those around us. Help us to work alongside all initiatives to feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless and safety for the vulnerable.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

God of Compassion, we are mindful of people living in circumstances of domestic abuse, fearful each day and not knowing where to turn for help. Give them courage to seek refuge and the strength to walk away from situations which have placed them in danger. We especially pray for women and children who are victims of violence and intimidation. Lord you promise to walk with us when we are in situations of danger. Be with those who are afraid and give them the knowledge of your presence in whatever difficulties they face.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Loving God, bless all who find life difficult at this time. we pray for those with hard decisions to make this week. We remember those who are having a hard time at home, work or school, all who are suffering humiliation, prejudice, loneliness or isolation. We pray for children who are being bullied at school. We pray for all who are brought low by sickness whether physical, mental or spiritual. We pray especially for those nearing the end of their earthly life. Let us spend a few moments bringing to God anyone who is in need of healing at this time………. Gather all those named into Your loving arms and may they be aware of your presence with them in their suffering.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

God of Love, Give comfort to those whose hearts have been saddened by the death of someone close and dear to them, whether recently or remembered particularly at this time of year. We commend all who have died, to the everlasting arms of Your love and safe keeping.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

As we go out into this coming week, may we be challenged to respond to the truth of the gospel and be humble and obedient as we seek to live in a way which draws people to the love of God.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Please feel free to use these intercessions for your own prayers, or in your own service.
