Almighty and Everlasting God, in faith we bring our prayers to you; for the Church, the world and for ourselves. As your children, we rejoice that you are both Father and Mother to us all and our name is written on your hands.
Loving God, on this day and every Sunday, we gather together with all our Christian brothers and sisters across the world to worship you. We welcome the diversity of cultures and styles of worship but recognise many face persecution for doing so and ask for your protection on them. Help us all to joyfully proclaim your name to all those with ears to listen, so that each new generation will hear about your wonderful love, as we are bound together as one worldwide worshipping community.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
Creator God, we pray for Mother Earth, suffering the effects of our misuse. The climate is changing. The polar ice caps are melting and we are ruining the rainforests by our greed. We pray that multinational companies may learn to put the safety and protection of our world before profit and for world leaders to find new, just and radical agreements that will protect our fragile world for future generations.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
Father God, on this Mothering Sunday we give thanks for family life, especially the sacrificial love of mothers, grandmothers, aunties and godmothers. We bring before you new mothers and those due to give birth; those who have longed to be a mother and feel excluded at this time; those who miss their mother whether through death or through a broken relationship; for mothers whose children have gone missing or who have died; for charities and organisations who help mothers in crisis; for adoption agencies and local authorities making difficult decisions about the welfare of mothers and children; for refugees fleeing war and oppression with young children and for those who have left children behind. We especially pray for all those for whom today is a difficult day, for whom the concept of ‘mother’ is painful. We ask that your Spirit will nurture, comfort, heal and bless, bringing wholeness to all who need it.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
Heavenly Father, we pray for our broken world with all the many wars, especially in Ukraine, and natural disasters, especially in Turkey & Syria, where there is so much suffering of your people. Gather together people with vision and expertise to bring about justice and peace throughout the world. Help us all to have the heart to selflessly contribute wealth and aid where there is poverty and hardship, so that all efforts might result in a world which is united and working together as one.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
Gracious God, we pray for the life and mission of our churches during this interregnum, that we may use the time of vacancy to prepare us all for the journey ahead. Give wisdom and strength to those who minister to us and guide all in the PCC who serve us now and all who will serve in the future. May this be a time of joyful reflection and anticipation for the future, always looking to you for guidance.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
God of Mercy, we pray for all in our community who care for the sick and elderly in their homes, in hospital, hospice or in the many care and residential homes. Bring healing to those who are in constant pain, those on long waiting lists and those waiting for results of investigations. Be with those who are in mental anguish and cannot see a way forward and those who feel they have no where to turn for help. Strengthen all families who are living under stress and shine your love into homes where no human love is found. In a moment of quiet we bring to your loving care those who are in any kind of need……..
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
Dear Lord, we remember those who are now with you in heaven, whether recently or as an anniversary falls at this time. We thank you for the memories and photographs we have of our loved ones, especially our mothers and grandmothers. May we treasure them always and remember their care and kindness. May they, and all who have died, know peace and fulfilment in your eternal home.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer
Father God, through all the difficulties we face, we pray that through our experiences, we will be able to bring spiritual help, strength and encouragement to others we meet in this coming week.
Merciful father, accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen
Please feel free to use these intercessions for your own prayers, or in your own service.
(We often gain inspiration from the prayers on the website of the Costa Blanca Anglican Chaplaincy. Please do visit their site too !)
