Intercessions for Sunday 3rd March from Jackie Stubberfield

Let us pray for the church and the world and let us thank God for his goodness.  Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.

Faithful God, we thank you for your Church, gathering around the world in thousands of places, from tiny churches to great cathedrals, to praise you, to hear your Holy word, and to share together in fellowship.  Help us to put our differences behind us and to unite and work towards the great commission of Jesus, “to make disciples of all nations”.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Creator God, we pray for our world where so many people struggle to live in peace.  We pray for those who have to search every day for food or walk long distances for clean water.  We pray for those who are being persecuted for their faith.  We remember those who have fled their homes in fear, especially the people of Ukraine and Gaza.  We thank you, for all the people around the world who are trying to bring about cease fires and peace agreements. Soften hardened hearts and help all sides to compromise.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Loving God, we thank you for those people who sustain us by their love, kindness and forgiveness.  Thank you for the people with whom our lives are linked and who make up the fabric of our family and community life.  Make us alert to each other’s needs and quick to serve and encourage one another.  May our gentleness with each other reflect your grace and gentleness with us.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Merciful God, we pray for those who are suffering physical pain, the pain of grief and mourning or the pain of depression and mental ill health.  We trust in your love for all people, and your deep desire for their well-being.  As we name in our hearts those who are in the grip of suffering and pain, we ask that they may know your comfort and healing, both now and in the days to come.      (Short silence)

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Eternal God, we thank you for people like Paul who have presented the “foolish” message of the Cross down through all the ages past.  Who have lived their lives in quiet holiness and whose prayers have helped sustain the world.  Help us to live our lives in the light of Jesus Christ our risen Lord as we try to follow their example.

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Rejoicing in the fellowship of St Andrew and all your saints, we commend ourselves and all Christian people to your unfailing love.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Please feel free to use these intercessions for your own prayers, or in your own service.

(We often gain inspiration from the prayers on the website of the Costa Blanca Anglican Chaplaincy. Please do visit their site too !)
