Reflection 15th May

Reflection: 15th May

Blessings

Scripture: Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.”

I love the words of this passage of Scripture. We hear it at the end of each of our services when we are given this priestly blessing, and through it we go out into the world knowing we are loved and protected by God.

A blessing is one way of asking for God’s divine favour to rest upon us; through it the priest asks God to keep us, watch over us, protect and provide for us, guard and guide us. The blessing asks God to reveal Himself to us so we can marvel at his beauty and reflect a fraction of it back to Him, bringing light to the dark corners of our lives. It asks that He will be gracious, merciful and compassionate to us;  that He will be pleased with us and our efforts to serve Him, showing us His love and acceptance and not disapproval, that He is with us.

Through the Blessing we receive the peace that only God can give, a deep inner peace of tranquility of the heart and mind, knowing the joy and peace of life found in God and life everlasting.

Today, as a child of God, I invite you to remember this blessing and all it means because there is so much richness and goodness in it and next time you are blessed at the end of a service remember this prayer comes from God who promises to bless all those who believe in Him.

May God bless us all.
